It’s not very often that we go to Tagaytay for a quick weekend (or weekday) relaxation with the family. And because of that, our visits to the Garden City of the Philippines wouldn’t be complete without enjoying a nice hot bowl of bulalo. My husband wouldn’t pass up a chance to drop by Leslie’s Restaurant and satisfy his incessant craving of this popular Filipino dish.
Anyway, I know the big photo at the top might have piqued the curiosity of our non-Filipino friends so let me give you a short and sweet introduction of bulalo. Bulalo is a native beef dish, popularized by our kababayans in the Southern Luzon region of the Philippines. It has a light-colored soup and is made with beef shanks, bone marrow and vegetables.
The Place
Let’s talk about Leslie’s Restaurant. It is located along Aguinaldo Highway Crossing and very accessible even for those who will go to Tagaytay for the first time. The restaurant can accommodate a lot of guests especially now that they have a second dining area. They also have nipa huts if you want a little privacy for your party. And if you love taking photos, take advantage of the picturesque view of the Taal Lake, visible from the restaurant’s overlooking area.
The Food
I mentioned that we always go to Leslie’s Restaurant for bulalo but they have other dishes that we also love. My son’s favorite is the Crispy Pata — yeah, we’re meat lovers. LOL We’ve also tried their Bistek Tagalog and Pork Sisig. Overall, we loved everything that we ordered and they were all delicious.
The Verdict
We didn’t encounter any issue with our food or the staff during our visit so I must say that it was a wonderful dining experience. However, let me also give you a couple of tips to ensure that you won’t experience any kind of inconvenience during your food trip. Instead of walking in, it is wiser to just give them a call first so that you can verify if there are available tables. That should also allow the staff to reserve a table for you so that you won’t need to stay too long in the wait station. Also, it’s quite a challenge to find a parking space during peak hours. So my advice is to eat there an hour or so before or after lunch / dinner. You can drive around the city or go sightseeing first to pass the time.
